A new $6 million roller coaster is scheduled to open at Waldameer Park & Water World in June, but the new ride has already climbed its steepest hill.
An Erie County judge yesterday agreed to uphold a zoning ordinance in Millcreek Township allowing the 108-year-old park to build the new Ravine Flyer II.
The owners of a nearby campground had objected to the plans, saying they wanted the coaster to be built farther away from their property. But Judge Ernest DiSantis ruled the township's zoning decision to allow it was proper.
The new ride is being built to resemble the park's original Ravine Flyer, which was dismantled 60 years ago.
The ride, the park's first steel roller coaster, will be 51 feet at its highest point. It will feature cars in which two pairs of people sit back to back, and riders will travel over 1,400 feet of at speeds up to 38 miles per hour.
